Starting with Food – Everyone has a story to tell

Food.  Glorious Food!  That’s the theme for the annual afternoon get-together at the Millbrook Manor this January, hosted jointly by the Manor and the Historical Society.  The focus, as always, is on stories – memories and anecdotes shared over coffee, tea and goodies in the Manor Common Room.  The stories this time around are of root cellars, preserving, pickling and ice house storage – the means by which folks were able to enjoy a bit of variety in winters gone by.  There was a time not so very long ago when grocery produce shelves looked pretty bare through those long cold months.  But down in the cellar, come find out what was there.

This annual event is always fun and is open to everyone interested in coming to hear and share stories.  It takes place Thursday, January 24, 2:00 to 4:00 pm, in the Common Room at the Millbrook Manor, 2 Manor Drive in Millbrook.  Please use only the guest parking lot.  Street parking is also available.

Looking ahead at the Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society’s program:  do you remember Frontier Days?  Millbrook High School?  What were you up to in the ‘70s and ‘80s?  It’s time to tell!  Come Friday, February 22, 7pm, Legion Hall, 9 King Street East, Millbrook.  All are welcome to attend, to contribute a story, or just listen.  There will be tea, coffee, light refreshments and a cash bar.   Admission is free for Historical Society members and by donation for guests.

And in March, save the date for ‘Benched!’ – from beginning to the end, stories of the arena.  On Friday, March 22, 7pm, come to the Millbrook Legion Hall and reminisce on the eve of the closing of the current arena facility.
