Local Author and Columnist Janet Stobie Honoured by University of Toronto

At the Emmanuel College Alumni Day, local author, Janet Stobie received the Emmanuel College Alumni Service Award for her contribution to the United Church and the world, through her books and her inspirational speaking.

Over the past fourteen years, Janet has written and published eight books, two novels, Fireweed and To Begin Again, a worship resource, Dipping Your Toes into Small Group Worship Planning, three illustrated children’s books, Spectacular Stella, A Place Called Home, and Elizabeth Gets Her Wings, and two short story col-lections, Can I Hold Him, and A Child Speaks, all of which have been enthusiastically received across Canada. Janet has travelled from coast to coast carrying her message of peace and love and sharing her books. Janet also writes a column for the Millbrook Times and publishes a blog on her website, Facebook, Linked In and Twitter.

Nineteen years in Parish Ministry, a certificate in spiritual direction, and a B.A. in Psychology, Masters in Educational Counselling, and Masters of Divinity, have prepared Janet for this exciting career in her retirement. “It’s wonderful to be recognized and supported by my colleagues,” Janet said, when asked about her award. “I felt honoured and encouraged to continue with my writing and speaking.” When asked what she was working on at the moment, Janet said, “The women across the church have asked for Dipping Your Toes II (another resource for leading devotions), and a third novel in my Catalpa Creek series. My readers are becoming attached to Renée and Steve my main characters, and the Catalpa Creek community. At the moment, I have also begun gathering together another short story collection.” Janet is definitely not retired yet.
