Ready – Set – Summer!

We are kicking off the summer with some amazing events at the Millbrook Branch on Saturday, June 22nd.

With the end of school just around the corner we want to invite all local children to sign up for the TD Summer Reading Program. Every year the CMLibraries participates in this wonderful summer long program that encourages children of all ages to read, enjoy activities at the library, and track their reading over the summer. This is a program that takes place across all of Canada, and this year we have partnered with a sister library all the way in Saskatchewan. We look forward to connecting with Estevan Public Library and their young patrons. On Saturday, June 22nd both branches will host a registration drive starting at 10:00am and continuing throughout the day. Drop into your closest branch to sign up and receive your tracking notebook, you can join up anytime over the summer too.  This year we are making it a competition to see which branch will read the most books over the summer; will it be The Millbrook Branch or The Bruce Johnston Branch? Each week the library will be organizing various activities and programs around this year’s theme: The Natural world. Did you know that there is a prize at the end of the summer for the most books read?

Also, on Saturday, June 22nd starting at 10:00am the Millbrook Branch will be hosting its first children’s book sale. We will have everything from board books to chapter books, CDs to DVDs, and everything in between. We are happy to receive any donations of children’s books for the event at either of our branches.  Come and fill and a bag and make a donation to the CMLibraries.

The last event of the day on Saturday, June 22nd will be a Summer Community Tea Party in the Harry William’s room at the Millbrook Branch, running from 1:00pm -3:00pm. If weather permits we will have games and outdoor activities available. Join us for tea, sandwiches, pastries, and treats. This will be a donation-based event. Dust off your fancy summer clothes, come and mingle the afternoon away and celebrate the arrival of summer. This event is for all ages.
