It truly has been a pleasure serving the residents of our Township as the Councillor from the North Monaghan ward since 2010.
Top of mind for this election again is the question of Annexation to portions of the North Monaghan lands. I believe the suggestion that we should sell large areas of existing residential lands as well as land for new housing development is an idea that has come and gone! We know that growth to the west of Peterborough into Cavan Monaghan makes sense. My focus will be to work to explore cross border servicing opportunities for both new and existing businesses. It’s no secret the City wants and needs new land to expand their already existing, near full, industrial park. Cooperation in this way between municipalities is the new way to conduct business that is mutually beneficial! Examples are plentiful across the province.
My vision is to continue laying the groundwork for more development in North Monaghan to create employment opportunities and to continue to grow our tax base with new residents to our community, both in Millbrook and North Monaghan. Innovation is strong within the agricultural sector and will continue to monitor and consult with OMAFRA to share opportunities with our local farming community.
We all know we tend to resist change! That’s why we need strong leadership on Council. Status quo is frankly is a non-starter! To quote JFK, “Change is the law of life and those who look ONLY to the past or present are certain to miss the future”.
