Imagine looking like you’ve lost your COVID weight without losing a pound through treatments you can have over your lunch hour. Donna Keates has opened a body contour spa in Cavan-Monaghan where she can help you lose inches, but not necessarily weight. Sound too good to be true? That’s what Donna thought when she heard about the process and decided to find out for herself.
Donna was motivated to change her physique last spring, when her usually stable weight suddenly shot up 60 pounds over the course of eight months. She attributed the phenomenon to menopause, and started to fight back the traditional way with diet and exercise. The pounds refused to budge, and began to haunt her.
Searching the internet for a solution, Donna discovered a body contouring salon in Cobourg offering slimming treatments and decided to give them a call. On offer were a variety of non-surgical body contouring, also known as non-surgical fat reduction treatments designed to reduce or eliminate stubborn pockets of fat to change the shape of the body.
Donna began with Ultrasound Cavitation treatments, where an ultrasound wand emitting high-frequency sound waves sends disruptive vibrations below the skin, destroying fat cells by liquefying them. The melted cells are flushed out of the body through the lymphatic system and urinary track, encouraged by the consumption of several litres of water for several days after the treatment. The results are quick and dramatic, with some customers noting more than 6” in reduction from a single treatment. While existing fat cells are eliminated with each treatment, new ones can form based on subsequent diet and exercise so the longevity of the results depends on the behaviour of the customer.
Cryolipolysis is another fat-reduction treatment relying on cold rather than heat. Also known under the brand name of “CoolSculpting”, this process removes fat by “freezing” and collapsing fat cells which are then flushed out of the body gradually over twelve to sixteen weeks. Results are equally dramatic but slower to materialize.
Both procedures are designed to reduce localized fat deposits on thighs, the abdomen, flanks, the bra and buttock areas and upper arms that do not respond to diet and exercise.
For Donna, multiple trips to the spa yielded minimal results, but she was struck by the obvious body changes she saw in other customers who were delighted with their treatments. She purchased the ultrasound wand and became certified in Ultrasound Cavitation, Cryolipolysis, Radio Frequency Skin Tightening and Lymphatic Vacuum.
Her spa now offers a variety of treatments targeting fat deposits as well as ones designed to tighten the skin, and address skin issues including acne, dermatitis, dull skin, eczema, psoriasis, signs of aging (wrinkles and age spots), sun damage and wound healing. All procedures are have received FDA approval in the US and CSA approval in Canada and are on offer in more than 50 countries.
It might sound like cheating to have fat cells blasted by heat or cold to get a better body shape, but most customers recognize the treatments provide them a reset. It’s up to them to take care of themselves to retain their sleeker form.
This month, ten percent of sales at the spa will be donated to the Trillium Gift of Life Foundation in honour of Organ Donor Awareness Month. For more information about this Body Contour Salon and Spa, visit www.bodycontourandspa.ca. KG
