Pink Shirt Day

by Newspaper club member Ryan Pillman

On February 27, 2019, it is Pink shirt day in Canada.

Everybody in Canada will be celebrating Pink shirt day for the meaning of it and when it was invented. Let me tell you why it was invented and when.

It all started in the year of 2007 when a young boy of the name of David Shepherd and Travis Price of Berwick, Nova Scotia who in that year brought and distributed 50 pink shirts after male ninth grade student by the name of Chuck McNeill was bullied for wearing a pink shirt during the first day of school.

So, that’s why everybody in Canada celebrates Pink shirt day. So, on February 27, 2019 celebrate pink shirt day on pass on the story.

The Castaways

By Newspaper club members Ava and Sydney

Millbrook South Cava prepared a play for the community and children to enjoy on the night of the 24th in January to celebrate Family Literacy night. Each family received a package of drama games to take home. The play was a success and the crowd was pleased along with the cast members. We enjoyed being members of the MSC castaways under the leadership of enthusiastic teacher Melanie Winn.  What we took from performing was that it was a great learning experience and also good to build our presenting skills! The Castaways play was about a group of homeless kids with a troubled past each and every one of them have their own characteristics that makes them who they are and there age groups range. The main part of the story line is a group of homeless kids (also known as the castaways). They are running from the children’s society because they don’t see a future ahead and this frightens them. This play also included the comparison between modern day children and old fashion children which seems to send a message to viewers.  Thanks for reading!

Ski and Snowboard Club

By Newspaper club member Maia M.

This year, yet again, our school has a ski and snowboard club.  We have a group of 48 kids who go to Brimacombe every Tuesday night. We leave right after school, around 2:40 and go skiing or snowboarding. While we are there, we get a lesson, which we get taught at our level of skill. For the rest of the time, we get to go and have fun with our friends. Then we leave to get back for 8:30. It is so much fun!
