Helping Build Financial Security for Everyone

Don’t let the word “wealth” throw you off.  Having wealth is not a prerequisite for engaging the services of IG Wealth Management Consultant Rhonda O’Flynn Brophy.

Some financial advisors seek customers with minimum investment portfolios before considering taking them on, thinking their smaller balances and lower incomes are not worth the “bother”.  Rhonda takes a different approach.  She wants to help her customers build their wealth, not arrive at her door with it.

Rhonda comes from an extensive career in finance.  The string of qualifications behind her name demonstrates a broad financial training with designations including Certified Professional Accountant, Certified Tax Advisor and Financial Planner.  She spent many years providing accounting services in the private and public sectors in Ireland and in the Peterborough area but in the last few years has chosen a different direction.

Helping a friend find financial stability for a disabled child gave Rhonda immense satisfaction and contributed to her career change.  She decided she wanted to help people find financial stability.  She was looking to help “the little guy”.   With her own financial position secure, she sees her new career as a way to give back and help others achieve their own financial stability.

The Millbrook resident is now a Consultant with IG Wealth Management.  She wants to help her neighbours build their own financial stability and believes she is well-equipped to do so.  Her training in personal finance has given her the skills to add value to their lives by helping them through their financial journey in life.  She is very impressed with the extent of financial supports available through government programs including Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSA), Registered Educational Savings Plans (RESP), the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) and Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSP) and sees them as under-used tools, particularly among those with lower incomes.  She understands the challenges facing low income earners, and sees her role as helping them set realistic goals and showing them how to chip away at these goals, using all the government supports available.

The first step of the journey involves a free financial planning consultation, where Rhonda guides customers through a process where they assess their own circumstances and establish attainable goals.  For the Tim Horton’s employee, this might involve putting $5 a week into a TFSA to build up savings for a vacation.   Others might be saving to purchase a house, or trying to set realistic plans to support themselves as they age.  She wants to hear what keeps her customers up at night.  Sometimes she even suggests new things to worry about, such as illness.  For the self-employed, this can present a very challenging financial burden.  She sees her role as empowering people to manage their finances in a way that is sustainable.

Whether customers meet Rhonda virtually or in-person, she hopes they walk away with the confidence that with a little support, they have the confidence and knowledge to find their own place of financial security, however they define it.
