Me to We Day

By Newspaper club member Jordan

On September 20th, 8 of The Me to We team members went by GO train to the event at the Rogers Centre known as We Day. The event that was occupied with 20,000 people who wanted to make a difference. They were accompanied by teachers Ms. DeWolde and Mrs. Monti. The students that attended We Day were: Mariza, Blayne, Jordan, Landree, Ella, Mya and Julia. There were some very amazing motivational speakers, and some great bands that performed, including: Why Don’t We, The Arkles, The Celebrity Marauders, and Johnny Orlando.  On top of that, everyone learned a lot about Me to We, the fundraisers, and how we can make a difference in our community. They sold Rafikis, and the motivational speaker Lily Singh released the sale of a brand new Rafiki that is about empowering girls. Margret Trudeau talked about how important water is and in some places the water is un-drinkable. And as well as that, the show was taped to be shown on television! It was great experience, and I am so happy I was given the opportunity to go!

Orange Shirt Day

By Newspaper club member Sierra

On October 1st , Millbrook South Cavan public school students and staff are invited to wear orange shirts to say sorry for all the things that happened in the past about First Nations. The week of September 24-28,  Me to We is going to read announcements and put up posters. We are hoping that most of the school is wearing an orange shirt whether they are borrowing it from a family member or friend.

The class I was in last year talked a lot about residential schools and First Nations, so I know about all the mean and rude things people did to First Nation’s people.  For example, if someone was bullying someone what we did in the past was much worse. We took away their land and we stole from them.  These days that would be a crime but we didn’t have laws like that back then. So on October 1st when you see students wearing an orange shirt, think about what people did to the First Nations.

Junior Soccer Tournament 2018

By Newspaper club member Maia

This year Millbrook South Cavan brought two teams to the Northern Athletics Junior Soccer Tournament in Peterborough on September 20th. There was Mrs. Parish’s team and Ms. Bickle’s team. Both teams did very well. Mrs. Parish’s team won three of four games and Ms. Bickle’s team won two and tied one. I am so happy for our school and all the kids that went to the tournament. (including me) Go Hawks!
