Remembrance Day

It was lovely to see those gathered at the Cenotaph on this unusually mild November 11th. With all that is going on in the world today it’s even more important to remember those who fought for and lost their lives so we could have the freedoms we so enjoy.

How sad to learn that the principal of the local school, within walking distance of this cenotaph, on such an important day, denied class attendance.

The Santa Claus Parade

Back in the 1980’s, we would dress up warmly and take the short drive to downtown Peterborough to attend the annual parade.  Thousands of eager people of all ages lined the long George St. route.  You could hear the music and knew it was on its way.  I loved to watch the bagpipers and see them play those fascinating instruments wearing their kilts.  What a spectacular sight and sound!

You could feel the vibrations of the huge drums and all the musical instruments that played all the seasonal music.  Simply awesome!

I loved to watch the expression on the children’s faces.  Their cheeks were rosy red from the cold air, and they screamed and cheered, clapping their hands with excitement.  Candy was given out by parade participants dressed in festive costumes. Then finally, the huge float that everyone was waiting for arrived bringing Santa Claus.  This big jolly man with the white beard and red suit, sitting high on his sleigh cried out ho-ho-ho and Merry Christmas, waving and smiling to the crowds.  What a sight indeed!  This was the grand finale of this very special seasonal event.

Season’s greetings to all.
