The day after the Raptors took the NBA Championship title, something else extraordinary happened. Their opponents, the Golden State Warriors, took out a full-page ad in some Toronto newspapers congratulating the Raptors on their historic achievement in bringing the title to Toronto. What terrific role models both teams have provided, and apparently more than half of the country was watching!
Keeping your cool in a critical competition is a valuable lesson to learn. Excellence in sports requires skill, certainly, but the display of personal discipline and respect for your team, your opponent and yourself are differentiators in a world of entitlement and self-indulgence. The Raptors have earned a remarkable fan base presenting the best in Canadian attributes, which is something we can all celebrate. KG
