Bringing History to Life

Robert Winslow will be sharing his story, which is also part of ours, at a talk hosted by the Historical Society
where he will talk about how he makes our history
both entertaining and educational at the 4th Line Theatre.

It could be argued that no one has done as much for Cavan Monaghan as Robert Winslow.  He has put us on the map, in a very good way.

The Historical Society invites the community to come and find out how a homegrown boy went from creating tunnels out of hay bales in the family barn to converting that barn into one of Ontario’s top-rated summer theatres.

Robert is a walking, talking encyclopedia of historical facts and folktales, gathered over years of feeding his insatiable curiosity by sitting down with scores of local farmers, families and old friends for some good long chats.  He has brought in a rich harvest of stories.  If it happened here, there’s little doubt that Robert knows about it.  And then, as a playwright and actor, he brings some of those stories to life.

This August, the theatre he founded on his family farm will once again draw thousands of people from all over Ontario and beyond to see The Cavan Blazers, the 4th Line Theatre’s flagship production.  It’s a true enough tale of the early years of settlement here in the mid 1850s, but tells a much more profound story of human interaction that resonates still.

Whether it’s to dig into how Rob went about researching and writing this play, or to get a firsthand account of the Millbrook Explosion, plan to come down to the Millbrook Legion Hall, Thursday, February 23, 7:00 pm.  Rob is all set to talk about growing up in Millbrook and then how he hatched the idea for an outdoor theatre committed to telling the stories that have shaped us and our community.

Doors open at 6:45 pm.  Admission is free for Historical Society members and by donation for guests.  All are welcome.  Refreshments available.  Come and enjoy an evening out, in good company!
