Each month we will feature a profile of a business member of the Millbrook and District Chamber of Commerce. We start with local dance studio, Yogage, operated by Lindsay Storms.

This fall, Lindsay Storms opened a dance studio operating out of the Old Millbrook School offering classes two evenings per week. With more than a decade of dance instruction experience across southern Ontario, she decided to set up shop closer to home in and around Peterborough. She offers a wide range of dance styles, both competitive and recreational, but in the Millbrook location all of the classes at this time are recreational. She specializes in a wide range of dance styles including Modern/Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet and Hip Hop for students from age three to adult.

With classic training and years of experience, Lindsay is delighted to have graduated some students who have gone on to work and study professionally, but she is also grounded enough to play make-believe with her pre-school students to help them find the fun in class as they learn to control their bodies and movements in ways that develop their poise and confidence.

Lindsay sees her job as ensuring that each student makes progress, both physical and emotional, in her classes. Her objective is to provide a safe and nurturing environment where students can experiment and learn whether their aspirations are recreational or professional.   Each student is unique and while she arrives at each class with a game plan, there are times when she has to switch gears and respond to the moment. However it happens, her reward is finding that eureka moment when everything comes together.

Lindsay hopes to expand her class offerings to include more dance styles for all ages and welcomes the opportunity for her students to experience performing in public. To learn more about this studio, join Lindsay at her Open House on December 21st from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Old Millbrook School, where she and her students will be working on a Christmas themed repertoire.
