Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society to Host Trivia Night

On Thursday, March 30, the Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society (MCHS) is looking forward to a night of trivia, music, and prizes at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 402 in downtown Millbrook. There will be three rounds of trivia with brief, musical intermissions between them. The fun starts at 7:00 pm sharp, doors open at 6:40 pm.

This event is the first of its kind for MCHS. “We are expanding our programming to have broader appeal and to engage the community in new ways,” says Celia Hunter, MCHS President, “The Board has developed a number of pilot programs in 2023 that are new for us. Trivia Night will be a casual, fun evening. We have Sean Price and Andrew Young performing between trivia rounds, and we’ve had fantastic support from local artists and BIA members who have furnished wonderful door prizes and prizes for the winners. It’s a great way to beat the winter blues!”

The trivia topics for this evening of entertainment will include local history categories, but also broader, general interest topics, including sports and recreation, Canadian geography, arts and entertainment, and news headlines. Participants may come as a team or join in as individuals. Admission is just $5 per person with proceeds supporting the Millbrook and Cavan Historical Society; this is a public event, all are welcome. Attendees can register at the door or in advance; visit www.millbrookcavanhs.org for more details or find the event on Facebook.

Fun trivia fact: the largest current trivia contest is held in Stevens Point, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, hosted by college radio station WWSP. The contest has been running for over 50 years and spans over 54 hours! While the MCHS admires the stamina required for this event, there are no plans presently for MCHS trivia to exceed two-hours.

“We’re going to win. Plain and simple.” said a member of the trivia team Goof Troop who wished to remain anonymous. Goof Troop, primarily based in Port Hope, has been successful at several local trivia events, including a recent Marvel Universe event where they took first place  They say they’re looking forward to squashing the competition in Millbrook.  It’s our hope that they’ll meet their match with our local talent, so get those teams together!
