After ten weeks of isolation staring at our four walls, most of us have discovered everything that bugs us about our current home.

Despite this current dissatisfaction, few of us are prepared to part with them and start again, even when the real estate market allows us to do so.  Financial uncertainty might also limit current appetites for major renovations, but sometimes a key furniture purchase, a coat of paint in the right colour or reconfiguring decorative items can make a big difference and revitalize a space on a limited budget.

Kristy Gosse is the owner and operator of Decors Design, a local expert in home décor who can help you as you make your next investment from paint, furniture, floor and counter finishes and layout.

As she steps out of her truck, this elegant entrepreneur gives off a city vibe that she comes by honestly.  Imagine growing up in Bracebridge and preferring to spend summer weekends near the corner of Front Street and Spadina in Toronto.  That would be Kristy.  She still heads to downtown Toronto once a week or so to reconnect with the city, which she finds rejuvenating.  Most of us would find it exhausting!

Kristy has business and design credentials from local community colleges and has honed her skills renovating and flipping homes.  She is not afraid to get her hands dirty, and in her most recent home purchase she hired and coordinated a dozen trades during the few weeks between closing the purchase and moving into the home with her young child.  She also had to remove raccoons which had taken up residence in the attic

A few years ago, Kristy decided to offer her expertise to realtors and homeowners who use her eye to stage their properties to improve both their function and appeal.  She keeps her style classic with a modern twist and she is very particular about colours and finishes.  When it comes to patterns, she recommends no more than three in a room, and they must connect somehow in colour or theme.

She has acquired a significant inventory of furniture, lighting and décor items and they circulate in approximately ten properties on average.  She has a trailer at her home where she stores those items not currently in use.

She is well-known among local realtors who rely on her staging efforts to create first impressions that make it easy for potential buyers to visualize the potential in the space.   Staging can make a dated home look fresh and inviting, boosting interest, speed and often the price of a sale transaction.

Before and after. Kristy Gosse sticks to classic lines and colours and keeps rooms light and welcoming. While she loves country living, there is definitely some city influence in her style.

Before you make a significant investment in that new couch you’ve been eyeing online, you might consider a consultation with Kristy.  Not only can she offer advice on what works and what doesn’t, she can source furniture through her own suppliers and potentially save money.  She can also spare you some expensive mistakes, and help you express your style without breaking the bank.
