With barely two months of practise under their belts this season, the members of the local Figure Skating Club offered an exciting display of their talents last Friday evening in a show entitled “Look at the Stars, See How They Shine For You”. Decked out in their finery, performers from kindergarten to high school age each offered an individual performance to their selected musical background for an appreciative crowd. There were smiles, frowns of concentration and focus, and great sighs of relief at the conclusion of each solo act as participants stepped on the ice to perform their carefully rehearsed movements for an attentive and supportive audience.
Their introductions revealed the motives behind their commitment to the club, which often included having fun with their friends, a benefit which was clear during the group acts. For each skater, whether they brought years of experience or were venturing out to perform on skates for the first time, skating with this local club provides them the opportunity to build their confidence and poise while wearing swirly skirts, sequins and feathers.
In addition, they build athletic skills and perseverance, as well as the ability to bounce back from the occasional stumble in addition to building their ability to work as a team on their group performances. These are all skills which will serve them well no matter where they go. Congratulations to participants, coaches and organizers for an excellent show.
