Heroes in the Home: Nominate a Special Volunteer

The Central East Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) recognizes and celebrates special caregivers who give so much of their time, energy and commitment to help others in our communities. Caregivers like Kameron Cross.

Kameron is not your average 14 year old boy. Like most other young boys, he attends school, plays hockey, mows the lawn and shovels snow. He is also the right hand man for his father, Andrew, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis. When he was nominated for a Hero in the Home Caregiver Recognition two years ago, Kameron had spent the past five years catering to his dad’s personal needs by providing assistance with bathing, dressing, carrying things and pretty much performing any task to help make his dad’s life easier. His commitment to his father is unwavering and his continued love, support and assistance shows a maturity not often found in 14 year old boys.

Kameron is just one of the many caregivers who have been recognized for their continued care and support of their loved ones by the Central East CCA in the two years the program has operated. Caregivers are nominated because of the exceptional efforts they make each and every day to help improve the lives of their loved ones, friends and neighbours.

The Central East CCAC’s Heroes in the Home Caregiver Recognition program honours caregivers – including family, friends and volunteers– whose kindness and commitment allows their patients and others to live full lives in their communities regardless of age, illness or disability. In the past years almost 300 deserving individuals have been nominated to receive recognition for the care they have provided to loved ones, neighbours or patients.

Anyone can nominate a caregiver, but they must provide care in the Central East Region. The deadline for submissions is 4:30 pm on September 10. Receptions to celebrate the recipients will be held in November.

Take a moment to thank a special caregiver through this program and nominate them as a hero in the home. Visit www.healthcareathome.ca. to submit a nomination or download a pdf cop. For more information, contact Gabriella Murray at 905-430-3308 x 5826 or 1-800-263-3877 x 5826. KG
