Cattle Egret Caught Off-Course

The Cattle Egret in Alan Bigelow’s field on Larmer Line is only the 5th reported sighting ever of this bird in Peterborough County. It should have been well on its way to warmer Florida climes but had been blown off course and was starving. Peterborough Field Naturalist Club President Martin Parker captured the bird and sent it to City Pines Bird Sanctuary in Napanee for medical assistance, but sadly it did not survive. It has been sent to the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto for further study. Photo Supplied
