What a Summer it has been for the CMLibraries!

We wanted to say a BIG thank you to all the community that came out in a big way to support the library over the summer. We had an amazing group of volunteers leading programs: Amara McFadden and Locklan McFadden (Teens & Tech), and Michael Charette of Mikey Charette Tattoos (Digital Drawing). Millbrook Foodland kindly donated an amazing selection of food for our ‘Iron Chef’ program that allowed children to get hands on with fresh food and a variety of kitchen gadgets. Our ‘Indoor Yard Sale Fundraiser’ was a huge success, specials thank you to the Murat family (Mary, Don, and Bob) for all their hard work putting it together. There was a grand total of just over $1000 raised. Thank you to the many volunteers and library board members who came out to help set everything up, we could not have done it without you. If you are interested in supporting the CMLibraries through fundraising, we have some educational and fun programs that assist us in raising funds. Our ‘Knit it Forward Club’ focuses on a monthly pattern that allows participants to donate items made to the libraries’ craft sale that are then sold during Christmas in the Village. Our ‘Community Crochet’ program participants are whipping up granny squares for an afghan that will be auctioned off, and are always happy to have new members join. Plus we have our sewing club that will resume this September where we gather to learn a variety of techniques and produce crafts that are also later sold. With 4 months to go until the holidays arrive we need all hands on deck, these programs are open to all ages and skill levels.

Starting Wednesday, September 18th from 2:30pm – 4:30pm, we will be running an after school coding program, and a maker’s space for students. Join us at the Millbrook Branch to learn some fun basics to block coding, how to design games, animate a story, and much more!

Our ‘Knit it Forward Club’ will be visiting the beautiful Twin Pines Alpaca Farm and Fibre Mill on Saturday, September 14th at noon. Please note that this is a change of date from our regularly scheduled meet up, which falls on the first Saturday of the month. Our pattern for the month of September will be a beautiful beret hat, this will allow us to practice knitting in the round.

As always there are a variety of programs available for adults (knitting, cookbook club, cyber seniors, and lots more) for a complete list visit our webpage (cavanmonaghanlibraries.ca). Questions can be directed to Melanie at outreach@cmlibraries.ca.

See you at your local branch!
