What a Show!

On Saturday, July 07th, the Millbrook and District Lions Club hosted their annual Antique Car Show in our historic downtown Millbrook.  As usual, eager participants were lined up at 6:30 am for the 8 am start.  The Community Police were out at this time manning the barricades and helping to get the vehicles lined up properly on the street.  The weather held out and the sun was out all day.  The registration desk was open and during the day we had close to 150 vehicles.

During the day the Masonic Lodge helped with the selling of the 50 50 tickets and at the end of the day a Millbrook resident Harold Prentice, who always attends with his Mopar Classic, was the winner, taking home $366.00.  Congratulations, Harold!

The Legion was open bright and early for breakfast and as in previous years, registrants received discount coupons.   Between the local restaurants and the Lions Barbeque which was in place for lunch, there was no shortage of food for the event.

Our Music was provided by Frank Hewitt who provided a nice selection of Oldies; you could tell by the reactions of the crowd that they enjoyed his choice of tunes.  Frank also announced the draw winners throughout the day.  We were fortunate to have approximately 40 prizes that had been donated by various merchants in the area.

There were many beautiful cars on display with their proud owners.  It didn’t take too long for the streets to fill.  Also this year we had half a dozen vehicles which we describe as Works in Progress.  Just because your vehicle is not completely finished, don’t be shy to bring it out and display your talents.  This creates a lot of interest as we have all had a vehicle at that stage at some time.

The Oldest vehicle there was a 1915 Ford Model T with its owner from Peterborough.  What is unique about this car is that it is the last year Henry Ford used brass during the construction.  It turned over with the twist of a crank and the owner drove happily back to Peterborough.

We provide trophies to the top ten vehicles that are chosen by the participants.  These were presented by our Mayor Scott McFadden who has always been a great supporter of the BIA and the Lions club.

Special thanks to all our supporters, the BIA, and particularly the Community Police that stood in the baking sun all day.  Hope to see all again next year.
