Saskia Mattern:

My name is Saskia Mattern, and I believe Cavan Monaghan should remain a place where young families can build their lives, while residents who have spent years building this community can enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Our community is growing, and I believe Council has a responsibility to manage that growth thoughtfully while keeping Cavan Monaghan affordable and livable for everyone. That means being careful with taxpayer dollars and making investments that provide meaningful value to the community. It means being proactive about maintaining our roads, facilities, and infrastructure so we can extend their useful life, avoid unnecessary costs, and continue providing the services residents rely on.

I have built my career in engineering, earning a degree in the field and working in the industry for nearly a decade. I would bring an evidence-based mindset to Council, along with the ability to understand technical information, ask thoughtful questions, consider different perspectives, and make practical, well-informed decisions.

As someone who enjoys spending time in nature, I am an enthusiastic member of the Millbrook Valley Trails Advisory Committee. Through this experience, I have seen first-hand the impact that dedicated community members can have on the continued growth and prosperity of Cavan Monaghan. It has strengthened my commitment to protecting the rural character that makes our community special.

Regardless of who you support, I encourage everyone to take the time to learn about the candidates, get involved in our community, and vote for the future of Cavan Monaghan they want to see.

Malcom Byard:

There have been many changes to Cavan Monaghan in recent years and we are growing at a rapid rate. Recent Councils have invested in new facilities for our community needs (New Arena, and the Fire Station/Paramedic Station).

These needs will continue as we grow and it will be important to build more new facilities such as a new medical clinic and elementary school. Lobbying for these assets needs to be a priority for the new Council.

Taxes are inevitable if we are to receive services in our community. It is my stand that any municipal spending be done with respect to taxpayers in mind.

For decades Cavan Monaghan has been pressured by the City of Peterborough to annex our land. Previous Councils have resisted this offer, and I believe any annexation would be a mistake.

Seniors in our community will need more affordable residence options in the near future. There are programs in effect in nearby communities addressing “Aging in Place”. Council needs to encourage organizing this type of activity so our Seniors can remain in our community.

As your Councillor I will work within Council to deliver sound solutions for the Cavan Ward.

The ability to listen and engage with opposing viewpoints and deliver positive out-comes is essential for Council to work progressively. Personalities need to be put aside to deliver effective regional government. In my 25 year +experience engaging all levels of government on behalf of Not for Profit and Charity groups I found that patience and endurance is the path to success. Good ideas are not always executed with speed.

That being said, my work in Film and TV production was executed at lightning speed. Delivering the nearly impossible, on time and on budget was the only acceptable method of production. My ability to decern outcomes and predict obstacles was trusted by top level Productions. I fell in love with Millbrook as the Lead Decorator on Disney’s “The Music Man”, and David Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence”.

David Lundrigan:

In 2022, I ran for Council in Ward 3 with a simple message: Grow Together. I campaigned on supporting local businesses, creating employment opportunities, investing in infrastructure, improving recreation, attracting healthcare services, promoting smart development and making our community more accessible for everyone. Those priorities haven’t changed. If anything, my experience since then has strengthened my belief that Cavan Monaghan needs thoughtful growth and strong local leadership.

I’m running again because I care about where we live and I’m excited about where Cavan Monaghan is headed.

We’re growing, and with that growth comes an opportunity to make the place we call home even better.
