Walking Group Supports Mind, Body and Soul

A group of residents meet on Tuesday mornings at 10 am the CMCC to get a little exercise, but they get more benefits than a few extra steps in their day – they find an opportunity for social interaction with some of their neighbours.  There is no pressure to walk a certain distance or at a certain speed.  In some cases, participants hardly walk at all, coming mainly for the comradery during the coffee break at 10:45.

It’s widely understood that social isolation can have real consequences, and not just emotional ones. Community Care hosts this weekly walk and other social events such as monthly luncheons and weekly coffee meetings to help seniors connect.  The Legion also hosts a coffee time on Tuesdays from 8:30 to 10:30 most weeks and their club room is often open afternoons from 3 to 6pm when visitors can choose a different kind of beverage.  Both groups host weekly activities where drop-in visitors are welcome, offering a variety of possibilities for social connection.  Everyone is welcome.  KG
