Volunteer Actors needed for 4th Line Theatre’s 2024 Summer Season

Millbrook, ON… Have you always wanted to act onstage?  Want to be part of an epic outdoor production in your community?  Have you ever wondered how 4th Line productions come to life? Interested in learning new skills and working alongside professional actors, directors and choreographers?  4th Line Theatre is looking for volunteers to perform in its production of Beverley Cooper’s Jim Watts: Girl Reporter.

Auditions and interviews will be held on Sunday, January 28th from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at The 4th Line Theatre Box Office & Administrative Centre, 9 Tupper Street, Millbrook, ON, L0A 1G0. People will be seen in order of arrival. Even if you have limited acting experience but are interested in bringing our region’s history to life on stage, consider auditioning. Previous acting experience is not required.

“Volunteers have been the cornerstone of 4th Line Theatre’s creative activities for 31 years since its inception in 1992,” states Managing Artistic Director Kim Blackwell. “This is where the community and art meet. This is a real opportunity to express yourself, learn and grow and join our team.”

“As someone trying to get into acting for the first time, the 4th Line Theatre was an incredible experience. Everyone there was very accommodating and helpful, and it was a great environment to be in as a whole. It further sparked my interest into the many forms of entertainment industry, be it acting, writing, or producing. Overall, it turned my otherwise bland summer of lazing around into an unforgettable one, and it’s something I can wholeheartedly say I would be a part of again!” – Zach Newnham, 2023

Jim Watts: Girl Reporter is a fascinating exploration of the experience of trailblazing youth who illegally flocked to Spain to fight fascism, attempting to stop its march across Europe, in the mid-1930s. Jean ‘Jim’ Watts was the only woman to join Canada’s regiment in Spain, the MacKenzie-Papineaus. The play takes us from Toronto to Madrid, from political rallies to the battlefields of Spain. And Peterborough’s own Jim Higgins – union organizer and hero – figures prominently in the story.

4th Line is looking for volunteers of all ages for general auditions.

4th Line Theatre is committed to diverse and inclusive casting. We encourage artists of all backgrounds to apply.

Other Volunteer Opportunities

If the limelight does not interest you, 4th Line Theatre also needs people to assist our front of house staff to greet and seat the audience (and see the shows for free!), and we are always looking for volunteers to help backstage with makeup and hair, costumes, set and prop painting, running crew and other production tasks.  Come to the auditions, call 705-932-4505, drop into the 4th Line Theatre Administrative Centre and Box Office during business hours or email Artistic Administrator Emma at emma@4thlinetheatre.on.ca to apply to be a volunteer.
