Upcoming Garden Club Events

After enjoying two interesting tours of local garden nurseries this summer, the Millbrook & Area Garden Club will meet back in St. Thomas Anglican Church Hall on Wednesday, September 4th to hear a presentation by Aryn Mahood on “Wildcrafting and Creating Herbal Products”. Since 1997, Aryn has studied the medicinal plants of the Eastern Woodlands, and has trained to become a Certified Practical Herbalist and Wildcrafter. In 2006 she started up Sweet Song; a herbal products business, working out of her downtown Peterborough studio. All the plants Aryn uses are either grown in her organic garden in Lakefield, or ethically harvested from the fields and forests of the surrounding area. Sweet Song products include teas, tinctures, elixirs, balms, syrups, vinegars, oils and creams, in addition to a small line of preservative-free face and body products.

On Sunday, September 22nd be sure to come out to our Fall Plant Sale, open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Old Millbrook School Farmer’s Market where you will find a great selection of plantings for your garden.

“Putting the Garden to Bed” will be the topic for the meeting on Wednesday October 2nd. Experienced Horticulturalist, Ken Brown, will treat us to an informative and entertaining look at the autumn gardening season, all the many enjoyable activities that engage him in the garden as the weather cools and the days grow shorter – bountiful harvests, new plantings, fresh blooms, the excitement of bulb planting and eventually the preparation for winter’s blanket of snow.

The Millbrook & Area Garden Club meets at 7:30 p.m. in St. Thomas Anglican Church Hall, 16 Centre St., Millbrook. Please park in the back parking lot. Admission is $3.00 at the door. Cups will no longer be available, so be sure to bring your own mug. For more information contact Glen Spurrell, nate@nexicom.net, 705-932-1231.
