Wildlife artist Andrew Hoag’s studio is one of the nine on this year’s Rolling Hills Studio Tour that takes place on Mother’s Day weekend.

Celebrate Mother’s Day by taking her on a tour of the rolling countryside around Bethany where you can introduce her to local artists in their own studios during the annual Rolling Hills Studio tour.  This free, self-guided tour runs on Saturday and Sunday of the Mother’s Day weekend from 10 am to 5 pm, and participants can go at their own pace and visit the studios that most interest them.  In addition to displays of pieces designed by thirteen artists and crafts people, there will also be demonstrations of pottery, jewellery, gourd art, paintings, wood working, feather art, and more at the nine featured studios.

Internationally known wildlife artist Andrew Hoag is back on the tour.  After a 10 year career in advertising, Andrew left Toronto in 1998 to pursue a career as a full-time artist on a 200 acre century farm outside Bethany and he has never looked back.  His work has been featured in exhibits in museums, galleries, on stamps and in commissioned work for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.  He gives back to the natural environment that inspires his art, with donations of his work to worthy conservation organizations across the continent, supporting conservation efforts.

Visitors to Laura Savoy Boyle’s studio called Running Paints Art Studio will see horse images that demonstrate knowledge of the animals this artist acquired during her years as a competitor, trainer, coach and owner in the horse community.  Whether the images are in pencil, acrylic or carved in wood, they reflect a deep appreciation for the animal.  She has recently begun to build traditional rocking horses that are  sturdy and realistic and designed for use.

Also on the tour are returning locations including Williams Design Studio, Lucya Fatima Almeida’s studio and Jodie Hames’ Clayworks Pottery. This Mother’s Day, take advantage of this opportunity to see and appreciate a wide variety of art forms, from pottery to textiles, stone and metal sculpture, photography, handmade jewellery and paintings on canvas and feathers created by local artists.  There will be something for everyone and their mothers.
