On a sunny day last month, an unusual spectacle travelled the roads of the township, when 25 tractors formed a parade of sorts as they wound their way from Larmer Line into Millbrook for a bite at the Legion BBQ lunch. This was the third event, which began with a group of antique tractor owners making the trek from Lakefield to Cavan. Last year, the route went in the other direction, from Millbrook to Omemee.
The only consistent factor in the vehicles were that they were old and had been lovingly restored. Rob Hooten and Mark Hay were among the drivers, taking the recently refurbished tractors that had belonged to their grandfathers out for their first spin in many years. Unlike vehicles at antique car shows, these vehicles were operational, but wore their age with pride.
The goal of the event was to have fun and enjoy the rides. Many along their route enjoyed watching the procession as it edged along township and county roads, eventually stopping at the Nelson farm on Sharpe Line for dinner.
This has been an invitation-only event to date, but anyone wishing to join the parade next year is invited to contact Mike Van de Bor at 705-760-4809. KG
