This Month at Your Libraries – November 2019

The holidays are approaching, and the CMLibraries are here to help you get a head start on your ‘To Do List’.

Start the month off by making Christmas cards with us at the Millbrook Branch. Join us Saturday, November 2nd at 1:00pm, where we will use our Silhouette CAMEO to create wonderful handmade cards. We will have a few templates to choose from, and show you some of the basics on how to use the software. Be prepared for glue guns, peeling paper cut outs, and fun!

Curious what other people are reading? Looking to get some ideas of new titles to read? Come out and join our moving book talks at the Cavan Monaghan Community Centre. Join us every fourth Wednesday of the month from 1pm – 2pm. We will meet on the walking track where we will walk and talk all things books and then connect over coffee or tea. This month’s meet up falls on Wednesday, November 27th.

The wonderful Marie, from Marie Daxon Photography has graciously volunteered to capture fun holiday snaps of families using green screen technology. Marie has the power to take you up to the North Pole without leaving the warmth of the Millbrook Branch. This is a free event taking place on Saturday, November 9th from 10am – noon. Registration is required, please provide your library card number, and contact information via email to Melanie at outreach@cmlibraries.ca to reserve your space. Each family will be scheduled 10 minutes to capture their image, the chosen photograph will be sent through email. Dress for the occasion, matching pjs, elf hats, ugly Christmas Sweaters…there are so many options…the only catch is DO NOT WEAR GREEN (anything in a green colour will be distorted as we are using green screens). These digital images will make great Christmas cards. To take a look at Marie’s portfolio visit her website (https://www.mariedaxonphotography.com), she is also currently booking for Christmas mini sessions if you are unable to make it to the library, details are available on her web page.

Join us Friday, November 22nd for a fun PA Day activity in partnership with the Quilter’s Bolt, and the amazing Santa’s Studio Tour. The Millbrook Branch will be making Christmas Ornaments, and a community advent calendar (using a sewing machine, and accessories). Drop in from 11:00am – 12:30pm. There will also be a holiday movie (PG ) running in the afternoon starting at 1:30pm.

How many of you are thinking of doing holiday shopping online, but don’t know where to start? Cyber Seniors this month will be specific to online shopping and fraud. Curious about where to find great deals? How to keep your information safe? Join us Wednesday, November 20th at 1:00pm (Millbrook Branch) or Thursday, November 21st at 1:00pm (Bruce Johnston Branch).

As always we have a wide selection of programs available that can be accessed via our newsletter, drop by your local branch and grab a paper copy, or access it as an electronic document on our website: http://cavanmonaghanlibraries.ca. Questions, concerns, or queries can be sent to Melanie at outreach@cmlibraries.ca.
