“August is like the Grand Finale of Summer”
-Unknown
It is hard to believe that August is here already! Beat the summer heat by visiting either branch of the CMLibraries and taking part in our children’s and/or adult programming. Our kid-theme this month is “Under the Sea August”, so get ready to take part in activities that may or may not contain actual water.
Family Programming:
On Tuesday, August 5th, stop by our Bruce Johnston Branch at 4:30pm to take part in Junior Biologists where we will be making a mason jar aquarium. We will be using water, food colouring, and a variety of other supplies that will help you create an amazing sea creature home. Following our watery theme, we will be making recycled boats at our Millbrook Branch on Friday, August 8th at 10:30am. Come prepared to dive into a variety of supplies to make a creation that will withstand the test of water. Helen and Jean-Michel (Postcards to the Front) will be coming back to our Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, August 13th at 10:30am to help us write Christmas cards to Ukraine’s Defenders. As Defender Danylo tells us, “Nothing warms the soldiers’ heart as a handwritten letter.” All supplies will be provided and all ages are welcome. *Please pre-register for all of our children’s programming.*
Adult Programming:
Please join us in welcoming Amanda Longley (SunLife Financial) to our Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, August 20th from 1:00-3:00pm for a Lunch & Learn about insuring your mortgage and planning your legacy. We will be learning about mortgage coverage and different personal insurance options to ensure that you are properly covered. Have you considered what would happen to your mortgage in the event of death or critical illness? Amanda will also be explaining how to keep harmony in the family and how to communicate your legacy plan. *Pre-registration is required as lunch will be provided.*
Seniors Community Grant:
We received a new Seniors Community Grant! In partnership with the Provincial Government, the CMLibraries will be providing a variety of workshops for adults and seniors from August 2025 – March 2026. Moving our motto into action, the CMLibraries will be providing opportunities for the Senior Community to “Read. Learn. Connect.”
Read:
The CMLibraries will be inviting local authors, writers and storytellers (published and unpublished) to present their works, offer tips and pointers to aspiring authors, and encourage memoir writing.
Learn:
While all opportunities are learning opportunities, we will offer one Lunch & Learn a month that will encompass a topic of interest. Some potential topics include: local history, health and wellness, active living, finances, wills, and estate planning.
Connect:
Join us for a cup of coffee and dynamic conversation. Some gatherings will have additional activities like Lego building, adult colouring pages, board games, and puzzles.
