How many remember the waiting room where the ladies would go to sit and wait for their men who were attending the Mill? The ladies would buy their groceries and take their parcels there to wait on the Mill-goers. The waiting room had public washrooms and was a warm place with chairs to rest. It was also a great place to visit and catch up on the local gossip. That room was used by many to escape from the cold and to relieve the ladies of their parcels for a short time. Sometimes the space would also be used for afternoon teas and back sales. Once finished, the men would stop by to gather their ladies and the groceries they had purchased. Located in what is now Nexicom’s customer service office beside the Legion, the room was a welcome and needed addition to the main street for the people coming into town from the countryside.
