The next normal – the old and the new @ the Cavan Monaghan Libraries! – April 2023

After three years of modified activities, both branches of the CM Libraries were bustling with action during the March Break. Quesadillas were eaten, dinosaur eggs were dug up, and stories about St. Patrick’s Day were read. It was busy but fun to see so many people back in the branches. Our March movie saw the largest attendance since 2019.

A huge thank-you to those who took part in our March programming! We hope you will continue to join us over the coming months as we add more activities to our schedule.

As mentioned above, Toonie Tuesday Movies are back. Titles for upcoming movies are “Compartment No. 6” (April 11th) and “The Menu” (May 9th). Movies starts at 6:30pm – and there might even be popcorn.

Storytimes and STEM activities are still happening at various times including once a month Saturday and Tuesday evenings at the Bruce Johnston Branch. Check the newsletter or Library calendar for times and locations.

New members are invited to join our book clubs including the Cookbook Book Club – where we discuss recipes and taste-test the results. Remember there are culinary items available in the Library of Things – including the spice library, Instant Pot, bread maker, blender and cake pans.

On Wednesday, April 26th at 11am check out our second “Coffee and Conversation: Catalogue of People Edition”. Joan Harding will be joining us to talk about spring gardening and the Peterborough and Area Master Gardeners. Starting in May, our “Catalogue of People” program will be held on the 2nd Wednesday of the month. On July 12th we will welcome back Rob Hiseler who will be answering more general legal questions. We are lining up our guest speakers for May 10th and June 14th – names and topics will be announced shortly.

Who knew chess would generate so much excitement at the CM Libraries? We are averaging 14 people at the Millbrook Branch for our chess group, and we have expanded to have games going at the Bruce Johnston Branch!

The best way to know what we are planning is by reading this column, following us on social media or visiting our website (cmlibraries.ca) and reading our newsletter. A new newsletter is posted around the 1st of each month. Each newsletter covers the current month and adds some teasers for the next month – in case you want to plan ahead.

Let us know if there are more programs you would like to see happening at the CM Libraries – we are interested in partnerships that help us live up to our motto “Books and Beyond”!
