We are so excited to officially reopen the off-leash dog park at Peterborough West Animal Hospital on Tuesday May 19th!
Over the years, this space has become more than just a fenced-in field — it’s been a place for wagging tails, zoomies, new friendships, happy reunions, and a whole lot of muddy paws. We’ve loved seeing dogs of every shape, size, and personality enjoy the freedom to run, play, sniff, wrestle, and simply be dogs.
But what really makes this park special isn’t just the dogs— it’s the people behind the leashes. Our clients and community members have always been some of the most caring, respectful, and dog-loving owners around. You are the reason this park exists, and we are grateful to share it with you.
As we reopen, we do need everyone’s help to keep the park safe, enjoyable, and available for years to come. The rules are there to protect all dogs, all owners, and the future of the park itself. It is important to note here that there will be a Zero Tolerance policy for Aggressive dogs going forward. Aggressive dogs will NOT be permitted back.
A few important reminders:
- Please supervise your dog closely at all times
- Pick up after your pet immediately
- Ensure your dog is friendly and appropriately socialized for group play
- Keep vaccinations up to date as well a regular deworming schedule
- Respect other dogs, owners, and park boundaries
Please see a comprehensive list of all dog park rules on our website https://peterborough-vets.ca/dog-park-rules-and-regulations/ and they are listed on the fence outside of the park as well.
We truly want this to remain a fun, positive gathering place for our community. The best dog parks are built on mutual respect, good judgment, and owners who look out for one another — and we know this community is capable of exactly that. We are considering some fun events to be announced at a later date.
So pack the treats, and prepare for the zoomies. We can’t wait to see happy dogs racing across the field again.
THANK YOU for helping us keep this park open, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.— Dr. Scott Sargent and the Care Team at Peterborough West Animal Hospital.
