The idea began as Jody Wheeler wondered how she could convey her gratitude to the community for the support she received when her son was injured in a snowmobile accident last year. She was looking for a way to pay back that kindness. Her fellow staff at Sylvia’s Restaurant was eager to pile on, and the idea of hosting a dinner began to emerge. Together they decided to provide a Holiday Dinner of roast turkey, stuffing, vegetables and dessert – the works- and donate all of the proceeds to the Millbrook FoodShare for the holiday season.

At first the ladies intended to purchase all of the supplies, but as word got out about this venture, local enthusiasm turned into donations. Didi Calhoun is providing the turkeys – they expect to cook at least four for the event. Max Manley brought fresh cranberries from his recent visit to Bala, Sysco is donating the potatoes and the rolls are also a gift. The staff is donating their time, as well.

The event is scheduled for Sunday December 6th at the restaurant, which will close early that day to give the staff a chance to organize the dinner. They are planning fixed sitting times, beginning at 4pm with the last sitting beginning at 7pm. Tickets for the events cost $12, which are only available for purchase at the restaurant and will specify the sitting time. They are hoping to fill the restaurant’s 32 seat capacity for five separate seatings, which will generate a significant donation for the local food bank. Join them on December 6th for a delicious way to give back to our community.
