Summer Reading is in Sight!

Summer reading holds a special place in the lives of many of our patrons, young and old.

Summer may look a little different again this year, but we have got you covered for all your reading needs. You can find our ‘Book Bundle’ request form on our website, this can be used by anyone to request a selection of materials. Whether you are requesting materials for a young reader who is enthralled with animals and insects they find in their yard, or a selection of guilty pleasure reads for enjoying outside in the sunshine – all you have to do is complete the form and we do the rest!

Sun safety! We will be encouraging families to follow along on Facebook as we walk you through simple experiments that highlight the strength of the sun and why we need sunscreen and hats to protect us in the summer months. These activities will be simple to complete, such as putting out glasses of water with one wrapped in black paper and the other in white paper, then making a prediction and recording the findings. If you require materials you can request them from your local branch.

Summer programs are coming! We are in the process of hiring for our summer positions and hope to have our summer schedule available later in June. Our focus for tutoring will be literacy. We will be offering shorter sessions more frequently with activities to be completed at home. Summer programming will be conditional on COVID-19 safety protocols. Our plan will be similar to last year where all programming occurred outside or online. We encourage families to prepare for programs by packing water, snacks, and sunscreen. Stay tuned for all the details!

The CM Libraries is creating a new strategic plan. We want to hear from you – a survey for the public will be available shortly. Watch for links on our website and Facebook page.

We continue to offer e-resources that are available to use from home 24/7. While we know some are disappointed that we have lost access to AcornTV (their decision, not ours). Other fabulous resources are still available including access from home to Ancestry Library Edition until September 2021.

On August 3rd, 2021, patrons who have not used their accounts with the CM Libraries since July 31, 2018 will be moved to “inactive”. This may include patrons who do not use the physical branches and only use Overdrive/Libby. To avoid losing your place on the hold lists, patrons who exclusively use Overdrive/Libby can help us by calling the CMLibraries to confirm the information on your account and mark your card as active.

As always there are more details and activities available in our monthly newsletter, available in print format at your local branch or on our website. For more information follow our Facebook page (cmlibraries.ca) or call your local branch (Bruce Johnston Branch: 705.741.1253, Millbrook Branch: 705.932.2919).
