Summer Programs at Your Libraries – 2020

Hey families! Are you looking for a bit of a break from being housebound? Join us for physically distanced fun every Tuesday from 10am – 12pm at our Bruce Johnston Branch and every Wednesday from 10am – 12pm at our Millbrook Branch. Each week we will have various literacy walk through activity for families. We have also added a new secret code challenge, see if you can crack it, or write a new secret code for someone else. We will continue to offer chalk drawing and chalk messages, along with other fun family projects. Our popular take home kits are available too (you must be registered for this option). Be sure to register on our website cmlibraries.ca or contact our summer programmers via tutor@cmlibraries.ca. Also, new on offer this month is ‘Kids Knitting’ join us for physically distanced knitting fun at the Bruce Johnston Branch on Thursdays at 11am. Register ahead to claim your sanitized bundle of needles and yarn. All experience levels welcome. At the Millbrook Branch on Thursdays at 1pm we will be offering rock painting. Please be aware that this activity will be using acrylic paint which can stain clothing. The summer programmers are also accepting requests for book bundles, children registered for the CMLibraries’ summer reading program can submit general themes and topics and they will receive curated bundles to pick up during programming. Sanitizing stations will be available during all programs. Please note: All activities are weather permitting.

Follow along with us on Facebook where we are also bringing programming to you virtually. Every week we host our Story Time online (Thursdays and Fridays at 10:15am). This is a great opportunity to find new titles, learn early literacy techniques, and develop the love of reading. We also have a special ‘Draw and Tell’ activity on Fridays at 1pm, be ready with your markers and paper. Our Kindergarten Readiness Group is running virtually this year, and can be found in the groups tab on our Facebook page. We are also sharing various fun experiments, math activities, and more throughout the week. Also, be sure to submit your entries for our ‘Reading Recommendations’ to enter into the weekly draw for a prize (submissions can be sent to tutor@cmlibraries.ca). Join us on Sundays for our Self Care Sunday activity, where children can learn various techniques and strategies to navigate the ‘new normal’. Just as a quick note, If you do not currently have a library card, you can request a temporary virtual library card on our website (cmlibraries.ca), this will give you access to our ongoing curb side pickup program, as well as all of our online content.
