Last weekend, the Peterborough Curling Club hosted a Sticks, Stones and Wheels Bonspiel Games.
In the semi-final Championship round Team Karl Allen (representing Schomberg) beat Team Gale (from Newmarket) 10 – 1 to earn their way to the Championship Gold medal game. In the other semi-final Championship the Peterborough team skipped by Dan Flint, played against the Peterborough team skipped by Alec Denys. Team Flint won the game 7 – 5, with a draw to the 8-foot in the last end. Team Denys could have potentially won the semi-final game if Flint had missed his shot, as Denys was counting three.
After the fourth end of the Championship Gold medal game Allen was in control, being up by three points. In the sixth, and final, end Flint was counting three. Allen didn’t make their last shot, which meant the game was tied at 5 points each. It came down to a draw to the button to determine the Gold medal winner. Team Karl Allen did a great shot with the rock stopping in the 4-foot ring. Team Flint’s rock was short of the curling rings.
The Bronze medal Championship game was won by Team Heather Gale of Newmarket.
In the Consolation round, Team Shannon Ross from Ilderton beat Team Matt Abbott representing Peterborough to take the Consolation Gold medal.
