Start the New Year with a New Activity at Your Library

Welcome 2019! If your New Year’s resolution was to pick up a new skill or hobby we have you covered! Come and brave the cold and connect with the community, plus we have lots to keep cabin fever at bay. For our little patrons we have storytime available every Thursday (Bruce Johnston Branch) and Friday (Millbrook Branch) at 10:00am, we will also be offering a Tiny Toddler Gym and Games every Saturday from noon – 3:00pm (please be aware that at the Millbrook Branch on Saturday, Jan. 26th it will only be from 12:00pm – 1:00pm). Thinking of picking up a new hobby in January? Why not join our Knit it Forward Club?! We will be meeting Saturday, Jan 5th at 10:00am in Millbrook, and Saturday, Jan. 19th at 12:00pm at the Bruce Johnston Branch. If you would like to borrow knitting supplies before fully committing, send your request to Melanie at outreach@cmlibraries.ca. We will also be making beanie hats on a serger from newborn to adult sizes on Saturday, Jan. 5th at 11:00am at the Millbrook Branch. Space is limited so be sure to reserve materials with Melanie at outreach@cmlibraries.ca.

For our Toonie Tuesday movie (Jan 8th at 6:30pm), we will be screening “Colette” starring Keira Knightley. Our monthly Homeschool Hub will be meeting at the Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, Jan. 9th at 10:00am. This month we are working on a “Make an Item of Clothing” challenge. For those looking to get more confident with technology, we have two great programs offered at the Millbrook Branch for you: ‘Cyber Seniors’ Thursday, Jan. 17th at 11:45am (the ultimate goal is proficiency in online banking) and ‘Ancestry Library Edition Tutorial’ Thursday, Jan. 17th at 1:00pm (a great way to get to know the roots of your family tree). Both programs are free and drop-in friendly.

Looking to expand your repertoire in the kitchen? Our Cookbook Club’s theme this month is “International Dishes”. Join us Saturday, Jan. 19th at 1:30pm at the Bruce Johnston Branch. It is as simple as: Check out a cookbook from either branch, take a browse, choose a recipe that corresponds with the theme of the month, prepare your recipe to present to the group, and then give a quick review of the book. New Members are always welcome!

January 20th-27th is Family Literacy Week. We will be hosting drop-in style programs following the theme of “Let’s Make it”! Follow us on Facebook to get all the details! There will be beading, Lego, and games! We have a special guest presenter this month, Linda Landry, from Primerica. Linda will be giving you all the details to become financially literate. There are 3 sessions to choose from: Tuesday, Jan. 22nd at 6:30pm (MB), Saturday, Jan. 26th at 1:30pm, and Tuesday, Jan. 29th at 6:30pm (BJB). See you at the CM Libraries in January!
