Spring Is Finally Here!

By Courtney Spence, CM libraries

Even though the weather has been pretty unpredictable these days, it is finally spring! And with the spring comes new and exciting activities at the CM Libraries. While it seems a bit late this year, Easter is coming up quickly! To prepare, we will be offering take home crafts for the kids to enjoy for the first half of April and an Easter Egg Hunt at our Bruce Johnston Branch on Tuesday, April 8th at 3:40pm. Pre-registration is required to ensure that we have enough supplies. We will also be taking part in the Easter Egg Hunt at Centennial Place on Sunday, April 13th from 2:00 – 4:00pm. Stop by to say hello and take part in our sensory bins, face painting, and button making.

During the week, we offer Crafting Corner 0n Wednesday at our Millbrook Branch from 10:30am – 4:30 pm, while supplies last. This month, we will have supplies  to make a bunny out of paper. an Easter egg ornament, an Easter egg basket (with a treat from library staff to put inside), a beaded firefly, and a rock that can be decorated for your garden.

We also offer Drop in Kids Club on Thursdays at our Bruce Johnston Branch anytime between10:00am-12:00pm. Each activity will be led by Courtney with the assistance of parents/guardians. In April, we will be making a bubble wrap Easter egg card, a button, and an edible Easter egg nest. We will also have a dinosaur themed sensory bin at the end of the month. *While supplies last.*

We finished up our Seniors Community Grant this month with a workshop hosted by Joan and Chris from the Peterborough & Area Master Gardeners. Over the past six months, we have been able to host a variety of activities that centered around, “What I wish I knew before I was asenior.” We learned about down sizing and decluttering, death cafes, needle felting, wills and estates, frauds and scams, and much more. Thank you to everyone who facilitated a workshop or Lunch & Learn at the CMLibraries and thank you to everyone who participated in our activities.

Although the 2024-2025 Seniors Community Grant has been concluded, we will continue to host adult workshops at both of our branches. To start, Jill Worden (retired therapist) will be coming to our Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, April 16th from 1:00-3:00pm for a Mindfulness &Meditation Workshop. We will be exploring the myths of meditation and why such a simple concept isn’t always an easy practice. This group will offer basic, guided meditation experiences with debriefing time afterwards to explore arising material and questions.

At our Bruce Johnston Branch, we will be offering Chicken & Chat on Tuesday, April 29th from1:00-3:00pm. Join Kimberly and Courtney as we chat and create beautiful granny square chickens. *Please bring your own 3.5mm or 4mm crochet hook and cotton yarn. Participants need to know how to crochet and have a working knowledge of granny squares. We will provide the pattern, eyes, and fiber fill for the chicken.
