Seniors’ Community Grant Activities & March Break Programming

By Courtney Spence

It is officially March! Does that mean that spring is right around the corner?

March is also the official end to our Seniors Community Grant. Thank you to everyone who participated in our workshops and thank you to those who generously donated their time to facilitate some of those workshops. While we are in the home stretch, we still have some exciting activities coming up. Dori (death doula) will be coming to our Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, March 18th from 1:00-3:00pm to explain what exactly a death doula is. Dori will be discussing how to create a legacy & finding closure, how to navigate the healthcare system, and how to plan your death your way. There will also be resources for loved ones and caregivers of the dying.

Due to its popularity, we will be having another Learn to Crochet Workshop on Saturday, March 21st from 10:30am-12:30pm at our Bruce Johnston Branch. Tracy (A River of Yarn) will be teaching participants how to hold a crochet hook, make a slip knot, and create a variety of stitches. Tracy will also be coming to our Millbrook Branch on Friday, March 27th from 2:00-4:00pm for a Learn to Knit Workshop. Tracy will show participants a variety of skills, including casting on, holding the knitting needles, creating the knit stitch, and casting off.

Switching gears to our children’s programming, March Break is coming up quickly! Join library staff at our Millbrook Branch on Friday, March 13th from 2:00-4:00pm to watch Minecraft. *Popcorn and juice boxes will be provided.*

On Tuesday, March 17th, we have two activities happening at our Bruce Johnston Branch. Make a Lucky Charms treat with Courtney at 1:00pm and then create an amazing leprechaun that can move its arms and legs. At 4:30pm, find all of the clues that have been hidden around the library and enjoy a delicious cup of hot chocolate.

On Thursday, March 19th, we will be having a Pajama Day! Dress up in your most comfy and cozy pajamas and let’s make delicious pancakes at 10:30am at our Bruce Johnston Branch. *Please bring your own water bottle.* At 1:00pm, we will be having a Lego Challenge. Participants will have 2 hours to create their masterpiece, based on the parameters of the challenge. Prizes will be given out to the most creative designs.

And lastly, our resident dinosaur expert, Tim Jeffries, will be coming to our Millbrook Branch on Friday, March 20th from 10:30-11:30am for his next presentation, The Dinosaur Detective. In this immersive, hands-on experience, audience members will become paleontologists and get to see, touch, and learn about real fossils from the age of dinosaurs. *Registration is required for all March Break activities to ensure that we have enough supplies.*
