Remembrance Day in Millbrook

This year’s Remembrance Day Service in Millbrook was very well attended and unlike many of the previous services, took place under sunny skies.

Padre John Sloan and Rev. Rob Ross delivered messages of support and respect, putting the sacrifices of our armed forces, past and present, in perspective.  A few wreaths were already in place at the Cenotaph, while many Legion supporters had adhered to the request to make direct donations to the Legion rather than purchasing a wreath to be laid during the service.  This shortened the service considerably, resulting in a stronger focus on veterans and their sacrifices, which was appreciated by all in attendance, particularly the veterans present.  Other traditions, including opening and closing parades and the powerful pipe tunes set the tone for the event and reinforced the solemn nature of the service.  The Legion Hall welcomed members and elected officials after the service, who enjoyed a moment of companionship and a light lunch provided by the Legion ladies.
