Guye Vondette not only manages the local Ball Hockey league but referees many of the games.
Starting in April, the pad at the CMCC will be filled with Minor Ball Hockey enthusiasts six evenings a week as minor hockey players switch their hockey skates for sneakers for a warmer hockey experience.
This will mark the 9th year that the Peterborough Ball Hockey Association lead by Guye Vondette will be operating in Millbrook. Vondette founded the local league in 2017 when it launched with four teams. It has two divisions in Millbrook and Norwood and fields more than 40 teams.
The league play runs from April to the end of June. The younger teams, U5 and U6, will enjoy ten sessions of play. Older teams will have twelve games and two practises during the session. Some players will get an extension to their season by earning a spot on a provincial team, which will particpate in the Provincial Championships in July. For the first time, this league has been selected to host the Ontario Ball Hockey Association provincial competition.
The league is fully-insured and certified by the Ontario Ball Hockey Association, following its rules and regulations. Games consist of two, sixteen minute periods with six players on the floor and the play controlled by certified referees.
The league is still looking for team sponsors, coaches and assistants. For more information about this summer recreational opportunity or to register, visit the website at www.peterboroughballhockey.com or contact Guye Vondette by email at pmbhlpresident@gmail.com. KG
