Peterborough Petes Preseason Game at the CMCC

Millbrook was one of three local communities selected to host a Peterborough Petes pre-season game last month.  Not only did this provide the opportunity for three neighbourhoods to see the OHL team play in their own community rink, the local minor hockey clubs also received a financial boost from the ticket sales from their event.  On September 10th, the Petes faced off against their rival from Sudbury to show off their skills while Cavan-Monaghan showed off our facility.

On the ice for the ceremonial puck drop were members of the Millbrook Cavan Firefighters’ Association along with Millbrook Minor Hockey player Connor Nicholson.  Connor was selected for the event to recognize Childhood Cancer Awareness month.  Diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2020, Connor on the ice as a celebration of his cancer-free condition.  Missing from the event was another Millbrook Minor Hockey cancer survivor Kieran Osborne, whose battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma coincided with Connor’s.  Kudos to all who supported these young men throughout their traumatic battle, from their minor hockey team mates, Millbrook Public School supporters, lemonade stand operators, bottle drive donors as well as professionals both here and at Sick Kids Hospital.

The results of the game may not have met the hopes for the “home” team, but for Millbrook Minor Hockey, the event was a great success, boosting the club finances and morale.  According to Millbrook Minor hockey representatives, the Peterborough players went above and beyond to make sure the day was a success for the Millbrook club.   This was the first event in a three year program with the Petes, so there will be more opportunities to see the local OHL team play in our facility in years to come.
