
Plowing competitors will meet at the French Farm on Zion Line later this month to show their plowing
prowess providing a visual history lesson on plowing methods over the last century.
The Ontario Plowman’s Association is hosting their annual plowing competition on Saturday, September 27th at the French Farm located at 1031 Zion Line just south of Millbrook. Established in 1913, the organization has hosted annual plowing matches every year since 1918except during WWII, featuring old and new plowing methods using tractors as well as horses. With the objective of advancing the interests of agriculture, the organization strives to promote modern soil and water conservation practices through fun and friendly demonstrations.
There are twelve classes of competitions which is open to Peterborough County residents plus a special 4H class for members who must be at least 10 years of age at the time of the event.
The Queen of the Furrow contestants are between 18 and 24 years of age and earn their title with their plowing expertise and their public speaking. The winner earns the privilege of competing in next year’s International Plowing Match which will be held in Walkerton, Ontario.
