Centennial Place Personal Support Workers were acknowledged last month for completing Excellence in Resident Centred Care training. Conestoga College Training Specialist Carly Szabo joined Centennial Place staff to celebrate the long term care facility achievement of having 85% of staff in this position undergo this training, which increases employee confidence, job satisfaction and commitment to their work.

A few weeks ago, Centennial Place held a celebration to acknowledge the dedication to excellence of their Personal Support Workers.

In early 2018, Centennial Place supported the training and development of two Personal Support Workers who became certified to provide Excellence in Resident-Centred Care training to fellow workers through the Long Term Care Personal Support Workers Education fund.  Dedicated staff members Kim Van Volkenburg and Sandra Carleton completed the Train the Trainer education and then provided peer education in four all-day sessions on a variety of topics, including palliative care, oral care, wellness, communication and activities of daily living, to name a few.

Personal Support Workers at Centennial Place demonstrate their commitment to excellence through ongoing learning and development as well as in the application of their knowledge of excellent practice in resident-centred care.

Centennial Place was recently recognized by Conestoga College and the Schlegel Research Institute for Aging for having trained 85% of its PWS staff in the ERCC program, surpassing by a significant margin the 70% criteria required to achieve organizational recognition.  The ERCC training supports improved care and improved outcomes for residents living in Long Term Care through high quality, person-centered care.  This training is associated with increased confidence, job satisfaction, commitment and team morale in staff by fostering efficient communication and effect team collaboration.  The Centennial Place and each trained PSW staff member received a certificate of recognition as well as a lapel pin to recognize their dedication to ongoing development and care delivery excellence.

Centennial Place celebrates all of their dedicated PSW staff who care for their residents each and every day.  Congratulations to all.
