John Scott McPherson’s first day as a volunteer at the Pan Am Games did not get off to a great start. His commute alone ended in a five kilometer sprint to make it on time – he lost the top button of his blue volunteer pants, his bicycle brakes seized, and his bicycle chain fell off – but it was worth it.

Watching the games over the next two weeks as they are hosted in Toronto, you might catch McPherson amongst the team of medical professionals crowding finish lines to provide athlete care – from water to wheelchairs. He’s been selected to be part of the over 23,000 member volunteer team at this summer’s games selected from a pool of 60,000 applicants…
