Courtney is hoping to help customers find better health through her nutrition and wellness coaching business.

Courtney Sitler has been a Registered Practical Nurse for six years.

After graduating from Durham College, her professional career began at Lakeridge Health, a hospital in the Durham Region, where she was a “floater”, giving her exposure to care in departments across the organization.  She recently began working at a walk-in clinic in Lindsay, where she receives patients and guides them through virtual appointments with physicians in remote locations.

Her nursing experience piqued her interest in holistic health so she continued her health studies to learn more.  Of particular interest is nutrition, weight and metabolic management, hormonal balance and diabetes.  She would also like to share her knowledge, but to do so with some credibility, she became certified in the The Health Coach Alliance™ organization based in Vancouver, BC.  This international organization is building a network of profession staff trained in health care and nutrition counselling across Canada, the U.S. and abroad. To earn the first level of certification, Courtney completed 200 hours of study from a recognized institution on topics such as holistic nutrition, health and nutrition fundamentals, healthy diets and lifestyle modifications, weight loss and health coaching techniques.  She is now eager to share her knowledge with others, particularly women.

She has established an Instagram account, www.instagram.com/step.2.wellness/ to launch her business, where she shares podcasts, recipes and other sources of inspiration.  Courtney’s account is not to be confused with a similar one where the words are not separated by a period, which leads to an account promoting nutritional supplements from a multi-level marketing firm called Usana.

Courtney loves to expand her knowledge, and relies on the National Library of Medicine (called Pub Med) for her research.  She shares her love of holistic health with nursing icon Florence Nightingale, whose philosophy and teachings emphasize that the nurse must use her brain, heart and hands to create healing environments to care for the patient’s body, mind and spirit. Courtney embraces Nightingale’s approach to nursing, with its emphasis on the relationship between people and the environment.

The coaching business is intended to provide a satisfying compliment to Courtney’s nursing career, and she hopes to build a network with local holistic practitioners including Naturopathic Doctors, Chiropractors and Acupuncturists in a clinic setting.  In the meantime, she is eager to help clients sort through the vast volume of health information that is both overwhelming and often conflicting, to find a path to health.  KG
