Not Going to School in September?

Children are now approaching their final month of summer vacation, and soon, the back to school preparations will be in full swing once again. For parents, this can be a very busy time, but the preparatory plans are quite different for those whose children will not be attending school in September. A six year study released by the Fraser Institute this spring reveals that home schooling in Canada is a rising trend at a growth rate of 5% per year.

Why would someone even consider home education in the first place? This is a frequently asked question with answers that vary from person to person. The following three points are some of the more common responses. First,the home provides a more relaxed and natural learning environment with generally fewer distractions where the curriculum and learning momentum can be tailored to fit each child. Second, the additional time spent together can build closer relationships and strengthen family bonds. Lastly, as the parents may learn or improve their own knowledge of school subjects alongside their child, they maintain and enjoy the role as a primary influence in their child’s life…
