Nine Ships Headed To Canada In 1825

Cultural resource manager and historian Dennis Carter Edwards describes to an attentive crowd at the Millbrook Cavan Historical Society’s April 11 event, the circumstances that prompted over
2,000 to board nine ships bound for Upper Canada in 1825. Together with fellow committee
members (from left) Maureen Crowley, Elwood Jones and Mary Smith, the audience learned
about shipboard conditions and accommodations that made the Peter Robinson Emigration project unique, and about events and celebrations being planned to commemorate the 200th
anniversary this August.
