Millbrook Students Attend “Come From Away”

By Newspaper club member Meghan N

This month, the students from Millbrook South Cavan got to experience the magic of Broadway. On May 15th, students in grades 6 to 8 went to Toronto to see the play “Come From Away”.  The day first kicked off with lunch and shopping at the Eaton Center before the play started. Then they headed to the Elgin Theater and took their seats. The musical tells the story of how after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Gander, Newfoundland was turned upside down when all other planes headed for the US were rerouted there. The musical was enjoyed by everyone who went, and the Elgin Theater was filled with laughter and tears. The play received a well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd.  The bus ride home was filled with excited chatter and the humming of all the songs. All in all, everyone, from the parent volunteers and teachers to the students, enjoyed to the day.

BBQ on Track and Field day in Support of MSC Breakfast Program

by Newspaper club member Mia M

Yet again this year we had Track and Field day. Many students will represent Millbrook South Cavan At the Northern Athletic Track and Field day on June 5th. During our lunch break, there was a BBQ to support the Breakfast Program here at school. Every morning we get a bag of either veggies, mini muffins, Fruit, bread, and many other small snacks to help us through the day. It is a great program and the BBQ was a great way to raise money for it. Many people helped to make it work: Foodland-supplied hamburger patties and hotdogs; Centennial Place- Loaned two BBQs; Millbrook Fire Station- Loaned big BBQ; and parents donated condiments and napkins.

As a result of all the donations, there will be over $1200.00 added to the Breakfast Program bank account! Thank you all so much! We are so happy to support the breakfast program and appreciative of all the people who made it happen.
