It seems so hard to believe that summer has come to a close and we are about to enter the cooler days of September. Although it is a bit later than normal, both branches of the CMLibraries will be closed from Tuesday, September 8th until Saturday, September 12th. We will see you on Tuesday, September 15th!
We are very excited to announce that the CMLibraries (in partnership with the Provincial Government) has received another Seniors Community Grant! We are very thankful that we will be able to continue to offer crafting workshops and educational Lunch & Learns until March 31st. To kick off the grant, Richard Khan will becoming to our Millbrook Branch on Wednesday, September 16thfrom 1:00-3:00pm to facilitate our first Lunch & Learn: Practical AI Skills for Everyday Life. Whether you are brand-new to AI or you have experimented with tools like ChatGPT, this session will provide you with practical advice. Our AI expert will show simple ways to use AI for everyday tasks—writing, planning, brainstorming, and problem-solving—using clear “prompt recipes” you can reuse. While this Lunch & Learn is currently full, please add your name to the waitlist in case of cancellation or to let us know if we need to have another AI workshop in the future.
Tracy (A River of Yarn) will be teaching participants how to knit cables on Wednesday, September 23rd from 10:30am-12:30pm at our Millbrook Branch. In this workshop, you will learn Cable Basics, including essential tools, cable sizes and corresponding labels, how cable row repeats change the appearance of the cable in your work, and how to read cables in charts. We will work on a scarf project to practice the basic cable stitches. *Participants will need to know how to cast on & off, and be comfortable with both the knit & purl stitches.*
Learn to crochet a pumpkin on Tuesday, September 29th from 1:00-3:00pm at our Bruce Johnston Branch. *Participants will need to know basic crochet stitches like chain, single crochet, and half double crochet. The pumpkin pattern is worked in rows, gathered at both ends and stuffed.*
Callie (Our Little Wormery) will be coming to our Bruce Johnston Branch on Saturday, September 26th from 1:00-2:00pm to teach participants all about worms! Callie blends science, sustainability and sensory exploration in a way that feels like a discovery – not just a lesson. Through a hands-on introduction to worm composting, we dig into the wonderful world of worms — learning about their biology, exploring how composting works, setting up a worm bin, and watching these tiny recyclers turn food scraps into rich, healthy soil right before our eyes. *This activity is for children aged 5 and up.*
Starting on Thursday September 24th, drop into our Bruce Johnston Branch anytime between 10:30am-12:00pm to take part in the children’s activity of the day. This month, we will be using beads and pipe cleaners to make decorative corn. For our Tween/Teen programming, decorate a faux pumpkin with a variety of supplies on Tues-day, September 29th at 4:30pm at our Bruce Johnston Branch. Our Tween/Teen programming is for those aged 10-18, unless otherwise stated.
