Council directed staff to proceed with the execution of a contract between Alaimo Architecture Inc. of Woodbridge, Ontario and the Township of Cavan Monaghan for the complete construction drawings for Fire Station One Replacement.

The motion was moved by Deputy Mayor John Fallis, seconded by Monaghan Ward Council Tim Belch, and approved at Cavan Monaghan Township’s August 31st meeting.

The contract will cost $103,032.00 including municipal taxes. Of that amount, $53,266.00 will come from the 2015 Fire Department Capital Budget

“We’re still a long way from getting the new Fire Station One,” said Fire Chief Bill Balfour after the meeting. “First we have to know how much it will cost, and then determine where the money will come from.

“We’re several years away from seeing what the new fire station will look like.”

He added that a new fire station can be expected to last for 50 years. “So we have to plan what the needs of the community will be in the future.”

The new building has to be designed to allow for expansion, adding fire truck bays and other facilities as needed.
