It is true that many small towns lose their younger members when they go off to schools and to work in larger centres. It is always exciting when someone returns from a positive experience away from their home town to another new adventure back home again.

Dorothea Hines left Cavan in 2009 to attend the University of Toronto away from her parents in Cavan. She attended North Cavan Elementary from kindergarten to grade 6and then went to James Strath for grades 7 and 8. For high school she attended Crestwood Secondary for grades 9 to 12.Dorothea loved art and the humanities courses she was enrolled in. She appreciated the hills of Cavan and really loved being part of the Cavan-Monaghan community. She enjoyed her teachers, and still thinks fondly of them, especially Mrs. Mary Scheller who was an art teacher at Crestwood.

“I remember her as being very encouraging when I was starting to develop my skills as an artist. She helped me to explore diverse mediums and she was so supportive of me when I wanted to pursue studies in art.”…
